Vaginal Yeast Infections Vaginal yeast infections are common to women world wide. It's estimated that three out of four womens will have a yeast infection at least once in their lifetime. Vaginal yeast infections can be caused by many factors include using douches, feminine hygiene sprays, wearing tight, poorly ventilated clothing and or underwear, as well as the use of oral contraceptives or antibiotics. The most frequent symptoms of vaginal yeast infection in women is itching, burning, and irritation of the vagina. Painful urination and/or intercourse are also common. Vaginal discharge may or may not be present, and when present is often described as cottage cheese like. This is only a short list of the most common less sinister symptons usually noted. Vaginal yeast infections are often regarded as simple problems that can be treated with creams or antibiotics. Most women are unaware that what they percieve to be a simple yeast infections carries a real risk of leading to something far more serious such as bacterial vaginosis. Bacterial Vaginosis can be linked to even more serious problems such as pelvic inflammatory disease (PID). PID can cause infertility and tubal (ectopic) pregnancy. BV can also complicate pregnancy by causing a premature delivery and or a low-birth-weight baby.
